Catalytic Capital Tools
We deploy catalytic capital selectively and in alignment with governance oversight, using tools tailored to organizational structure and mission fit.
Low-Interest Loans
We may use low-interest loans to provide flexible, repayable capital to mission-driven organizations. These loans can support specific projects or working-capital needs where patient terms strengthen operational stability and long-term impact.
Grants
For nonprofit partners, grants may be deployed selectively—often paired with Grants of Time—to support capacity-building, testing, or early execution of mission-aligned initiatives.
Loan Guarantees
Loan guarantees may be used to share or reduce risk for traditional lenders when supporting qualified mission-driven organizations. By guaranteeing a portion of a loan, the Foundation can help unlock capital that might not otherwise be available on appropriate terms.
Revenue-Based and Equity Structures
In select situations, the Foundation may consider revenue-based financing or equity investments where appropriate to the organization’s model and consistent with the Foundation’s charitable purpose. These tools are used cautiously to balance discipline, alignment, and long-term sustainability.
Investment Principles & Alignment
Impact Makers Foundation uses catalytic capital tools in ways that are consistent with its charitable purpose, financial stewardship responsibilities, and long-term view of impact.
Purpose Design: We seek opportunities where social and environmental outcomes are central to the design of the work, not a secondary benefit.
Sustainable Growth: We look for models that can be sustained by realistic revenue, cost structures, and capabilities, even as they evolve.
Catalytic Intent: We use grants of time and catalytic capital to help organizations test, strengthen, or extend approaches that may unlock future resources or impact.
Stewardship & Oversight: The Board of Directors provides oversight for the Foundation’s use of catalytic capital, with attention to risk, alignment with charitable purpose, and responsible re-deployment of returned funds when applicable.
Operational Strength: We prioritize organizations that demonstrate sound leadership, governance, and operating practices, with a focus on continuous improvement.
